About Us & The Faces of Our Organization
Here at AMWA, our mission is to advance women in medicine, advocate for equity, and ensure excellence in health care. Our goal is to help create a world where female physicians are able to achieve equity in the medical field & prosper in all areas of healthcare. We wanted to implement these values at our UT Dallas Chapter of AMWA. Throughout the semester, we will provide our members with numerous ways to serve the community such as fundraising for non-profit organizations, serving health clinics for women in underserved communities & extending helping hands at community food kitchens, hospitals, and shelters. We also will be providing our members with experiences and skills that will fortify their success in any future healthcare endeavors such as Pre-Professional School Sessions with resume/CV reviews, mock interviews, hands-on workshops, professional guest speaker panels and more. We at AMWA UTD welcome individuals from various different pre-health backgrounds such as Pre-PA, Pre-Nursing, Pre-MD/PhD etc.
Nithya Kommanaboyina

Hi Everyone! My name is Nithya Kommanaboyina and I’m your President for the 2026-2027 school year:) I’m a senior majoring in Healthcare Studies and this is my fourth year in AMWA! I have been apart of AMWA since my freshman year and I cannot wait to have another amazing year being apart of AMWA:) I absolutely love the supportive environment and cannot wait for members to join such a welcoming community! Outside of AMWA, I am a PLTL leader for General Chemistry and a First Year Leader (FYL), and in my free time I enjoy trying different coffee shops and restaurants, traveling, hanging out with my family and friends! I’m really excited to have another great year in AMWA and I’m so excited to meet everyone:)
Anushka Bains
Introducing our 2026-2027 Vice President of Communications…
Hello everyone! My name is Anushka Bains and I will be your VP of Communications for this year! I am currently a junior majoring in healthcare studies and minoring in psychology on the pre-med track. I have been a part of AMWA since my freshmen year and I have loved it every year! My interests include listening to music, finding nice coffee shops, and watching documentaries. Outside of AMWA, I work at a fertility clinic as a medical assistant, I teach an Indian folk art, called Madhubani, and recently started swimming again. I am so happy to be back this year and can’t wait for another great year!

Introducing our 2026-2027 Vice President of Logistics …
Hi everyone :) My name is Jocelyn and I will be your Vice President of Logistics for the 26-27 school year! I am a Senior Healthcare Studies major and Biology minor, on the pre-med track and have been in AMWA since my freshman year. It has been some of the most exciting years of my time here and I sure will miss it so much. A little about me, I am a First Year Leader for EPPS, and I work at an optometry clinic! I love reading psych thrillers, watching Marvel movies (Loki and Dr. Strange), and beatbox competitions haha. I am so excited for my last year with AMWA UTD and I cannot wait to meet you all soon!
Simran Amin

Hello! My name is Simran Amin and I will be your treasurer this year! I am a sophomore biomedical science major and aspiring gynecologic oncologist. I love AMWA and I’m so excited to help you guys be a part of all the amazing connections and opportunities that it brings! Outside of AMWA, I work at a local adolescent women’s health clinic and volunteer in the UTSW Geriatrics Department. In my free time I love to mess around with my shrimp tank, cook (often not successfully </3), and obsess over my Stardew Valley farm.
Fatiha Shode
Introducing our 2026-2027 Secretary…
Hi everyone! My name is Fatiha Shode and I’m the secretary for this year. I’m a senior biochemistry major on the pre-med track. I joined AMWA as a freshman and it’s one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. I’m always super grateful for the community I’ve found through it. In my free time, I enjoy hiking, baking, crocheting, and pottery painting. I also enjoy eating my way around the North Dallas area (my fav is Thai food!). I’m looking forward to meeting everyone and all the exciting events we have planned for this year!
Saumya Dhamankar
Introducing our 2026-2027 Marketing Manager…
Hi everyone! My name is Saumya Dhamankar, and I will be your Marketing Manager for the 26-27 school year! I am a senior majoring in Psychology, and I plan on pursuing counseling or clinical psychology. I have been in AMWA since my freshman year, and can’t believe that this is already my final year at UTD! Outside of school, I do Kathak, an Indian classical dance form, which I have been learning for over 14 years. I also help teach Kathak once a week at my dance studio. Additionally, I love reading, watching movies, journaling, scrolling on Pinterest, and spending time with my friends and family. I am so excited to meet you all and be involved in our amazing events this year!
Carolina Barrios-Trejo

Hi everyone! My name is Carolina Barrios Trejo, and I’m one of your Events Coordinators for this school year! I’m a sophomore majoring in Biomedical Engineering on the pre-med track, and I’ve been a part of AMWA since my freshman year. In my free time, I love going on runs, trying new food, hanging out with friends, watching movies, and traveling. Outside of AMWA, I’m a middle school tutor, volunteer at a local clinic, and am involved in research in the Biomechanics of Growth and Remodeling Lab. I can’t wait to meet everyone and make lots of fun memories together this year!

Hi everyone! My name is Amaira Nagar, and I’m a junior majoring in Biology on the pre-med track. This is my second year with AMWA, and I love the supportive and welcoming community it provides. I’m so excited to be involved in all the fun events we have planned this year! In my free time, I enjoy dancing, traveling, spending time with friends, and exploring new coffee shops. Outside of AMWA, I work as a research assistant and volunteer at Medical City Plano. I’m looking forward to meeting everyone and having an amazing year together!
